Me & My Blog

About Me

Our toad hollow has Toad Daddy, Toady Mama, older Toad (5) and younger Toad (3). I've had a diverse professional background and right now I teach art very part time.  This blog mirrors the trajectory of our life right now.  We home school, we garden, we have pets, we like to have a good time.  I hope you get something out of the variety.

For those dedicated herpetologists out there, that photo is of a Southern Bullfrog, not a Southern Toad.  We have Southern Toads in the yard but I can never get a good picture of one.  They're always out at dusk and hopping around.  So forgive the substitution.

Why do I call the children toads anyway?  My children drive me crazy.  I love them dearly but they still drive me crazy.  I like to read mysteries and have a soft spot for the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear.  Here's Ms. Winspear's website if you're curious.  I sympathize with the main character trying to build a business in a male dominated field on her own, which I did once myself eons ago.  I also lived in England for a year and like in the Maisie Dobbs mysteries, one of the best parts is the constant tea chugging.  Maisie's best friend, Priscilla, is a wealthy socialite who has three boys that she calls toads.  She also has a cook, housekeeper and a nanny which I don't, nor am I a wealthy socialite, but somehow toads resonated.  I love my toads, warts and all.

About my header pictures

These are all pictures I've taken on my travels that apply to the themes of sculpture and architecture (my two favorite artsy things).

They are from left to right:
La Sagrada Familia (Barcelona, Spain)
Spoonbridge and Cherry by Claes Oldenberg and Coosje van Bruggen (Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN)
Time Capsule by Chris Drury (South Carolina Botanical Garden, Clemson, NC)
Globe Theatre Gates (London, England)
Chartres Cathedral (Chartres, France)
